Jewish
and Interfaith Weddings
As a Judaic Life Specialist, Iris Jacobs is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
to officiate at both Jewish and Interfaith weddings. She also has reciprocal
arrangements with the states of Rhode Island, New Hampshire and New Jersey.
Several
months before the wedding is to take place, Iris meets with the
prospective bride and groom to get acquainted and to ascertain
the type of ceremony they feel best for them. Iris will also recommend
pertinent reading on the subject of marriage. In addition to chapels,
function rooms and her study, Iris has also officiated by the seashore,
on a bridge over the Charles River and on a mountain top. No matter
what the setting, Iris always brings grace, dignity, humor and
the beautiful richness of her singing and speaking voice to each
ceremony which is individualized and personalized for each bride
and groom. Iris can also be accompanied by members of the Kol
Miriam Choir if so desired by the couple.

Covenant Services
or Baby Namings
Covenant
Services or Baby Namings are performed mainly for little girls,
but often if the boy baby has been circumcised in the hospital
without a religious ceremony, the family may opt to invest his
entry into the Jewish family with more meaning. Generally the
brief service is held in the home of the parents or grandparents.
Often friends and relatives are invited to share in the simcha.
As always, Iris provides meaningful music and prayers with participation
by parents and grandparents, and other family members.

Jewish Funerals
Funerals are always conducted with great dignity either at
a memorial chapel or at the grave site.
Iris will always endeavor to find out as much as possible about
the deceased. In addition to chanting the funeral liturgy she
will generally give the biographical data while leaving it
up to members of the family to illuminate the personality of
their loved one.
Some families ask Iris to sing a favorite song which she will
either do a capella or accompanied by her guitar. Iris will
include conducting at least one Minyan at the Shiva house,
and she is always available to officiate at the Unveiling. |
